WebHostingBuzz was started in 2002 by Safvan Malik, the current CEO. Our grass roots were a simple reseller account of another company started by Safvan in his spare time whilst at University studying Business Management. Fast forward 6 years and we're now a multi-national company hosting over 300,000 websites, hundreds of servers and provide hosting infrastructure to some of the most common destinations on the internet today.

However, since inception, some things remain:

  • We're 100% privately held. We have no share holders other than ourselves to answer to. This means we spend the money where it matters - on WebHostingBuzz.
  • We're debt free. No loans, no mortgages and cash flow positive. We've had plenty of acquisition offers and the answer has been a flat "NO" each time.

Our Infrastructure and Technology: what powers your website

Datacenters

Choice of data center is paramount for any hosting company that wishes to continually deliver high performance and reliable hosting to their client base. We've chosen three geographically diverse facilities to house our infrastructure. Each has been selected on it's own merit after meeting our stringent requirements.

  • Each facility features fully redundant infrastructure; internet connectivity, power, internal and human resource (yes, what happens when the sole graveyard shift technician at lesser facilities has flu?)
  • All facilities are discreet, unmarked and secure. Data centers are becoming an increasingly popular target for thieves and criminals because of their often invaluable contents.
  • None of the facilities are in natural disaster prone areas. Too many of our competitors use data centers in hurricane-prone areas, others even use data centers in areas at great risk from earthquakes.
  • All facilities are of a minimum of Tier 3/n+1 redundancy specification (as specified by The Uptime Institute)

How can we describe the people that work for WebHostingBuzz? Well, we've carefully crafted a dream team; we only have jobs for people at the very top of their game. We employ close to 40 people and unfortunately, there's only so much space on one web page, but here are a few of the key figures:

Saf M - Chief Executive Officer

Our illustrious CEO whom together with the COO is at the helm of WHB. His daily activities include accounts payable, affiliate management, marketing campaigns and analysis and an excessive amount of time spent on Youtube.

Matt R - Chief Operating Officer

Matt is the author of this page so has to be objective in writing about himself. He is responsible for all the company's operations and boasts the longest to-do list within WHB. Infact, if you combine the to-do lists of all the team then Matt's is probably still longer. His daily activities include management of the technical and system admin teams, R&D tasks, company strategy/direction and a lot of time drinking coffee.

Wayne R - Billing Extraordinaire

Wayne is the self styled 'billing extraordinaire', who also happens to be talented in both sales and technical fields. This makes Wayne a jack of all trades and you'll find him wearing many hats at WHB - he is an excellent general manager. It is also alleged that he wears even more extravagant hats after a beer or 10.....

Martin S - Support Team Manager

Martin is our support team manager, working closely with the support team leaders to insure that clients get fast and helpful support 24x7. Martin is a strong advocate of 24x7….he's often seen leaving the office at well gone midnight (and we think he keeps up his WHB Beer Squad membership by calling off for a quick beer on the way home). That's dedication, right?

Martin is very popular as he invented "Pizza on Friday's" at the office!

Dennis A - Support Team Leader

Dennis is a very experienced Linux admin, who moved into hosting after a career in forensics. As one of our Support Team Leaders, he is responsible for supporting clients himself, as well as overseeing the main technical support team. His daily activities include server and helpdesk monitoring, team training and R&D.

Iggy R - Support Team Leader

A Linux veteran with 10 years of Linux sys admin experience, Iggy has major experience in all major Linux and FreeBSD distributions. Like Dennis, he oversees the technical team who are responsible for the smooth operation of our servers and the helpdesk. With his system administration experience, Iggy is a major part of our R&D team.

Jef S - Phone Support Team Leader

Jef is our phone support team leader. He's in charge of everything telephone related; managing the teams for both incoming and outgoing calls. Edit: we didn't have anything amusing to write for Jef before, but now that HostingCon has been and gone, Jef is now Jef 'Orange Juice' Spelman! ;) //Matt

Elena O - Customer Service Manager

Who says there's no place for girls in hosting? Elena is our Customer Service Manager, our rock behind the general day to day customer facing operations. Elena has a MBA in International Economics, making her one of the most highly qualified superstars within our team.

Fahad Faraz

Fahad has been with the company since its inception and currently serves as the CFO of WebHostingBuzz.com. He heads the billing and accounts department. He is responsible for all the financial reporting of WebHostingBuzz.com and currently bears 5 year experience in information managment systems and accounts. He holds a bachelor degree in software engineering and is also completing his Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) certification.

Alex B - Web Designer Superstar

Alex is our web designer and is responsible for the design of our website and various marketing material. Undoubtedly the most graphically talented amongst us, Alex's awesome design skills still hold us in awe each time he shows us something new. Alex is also a prominent member of the "WHB Beer Squad"! (and he still threatens to post up some of our 5th Birthday celebrations up on the website….)

There's a lot of web hosting companies all competing for your business. Few of these hosting companies 'make it', however. They will start with poor planning, little thought and will lack business expertise and ultimately will go out of business in a matter of months. Why are we mentioning that here? Because we feel it damages the industry as a whole. You may ask how we're different (apart from the fact we're old timers!) so we wrote a few paragraphs on our philosophies below....

1. Honesty - We're not perfect

WebHostingBuzz.com is run by humans. Whilst our R&D team is working night and day to try and create robots that do all of the work for us, we're still a little way off that, leaving us to do the work. We're human and we can make mistakes. We have in the past and we will do so in the future. However, we are always quick to acknowledge where we have made a mistake and will always go the extra mile to correct any mistakes that we have made. Competitors will try and hide mistakes they have made, we do not. Go ahead and check our forums and you will see that the occasional hiccup occurs. What separates us from the rest is how we address such hiccups and our openness in doing so.

2. Price - Affordability for all

We've used the Internet since the days that a 3 page website could cost you thousands of dollars a year to host. We have helped pioneer the budget hosting market, bring hosting packed with the features you need to run your website at a cost that you can afford. We are constantly pushing the boundaries in terms of what we can offer that fit within our business model and we are very pleased in what we are able to offer clients. We're constantly reviewing our packages against our competitors and each time we review, WebHostingBuzz is shown to be leading the pack in pricing/features as well as beating the competition 'hands down' when it comes to customer satisfaction.

3. Customer Satisfaction - Second best is not good enough for us

Web hosting is a service business. They key to success in a service business is providing a good service. This is something we take very close to heart and consequently, we strive to (and succeed in doing) receiving extremely high levels of customer satisfaction. We'd like you to take a look at our hosting reviews page for an example of this. Every few months, we update the reviews page so that you get an accurate perspective of what our customers are saying about us and these testimonials are not altered in any way. The majority of our business comes from word-of-mouth recommendations -- undoubtedly the best testimonial you can get.

4. Reliability - Say goodbye to downtime

Our reliability pledge ties in closely with our views on customer satisfaction. A customer isn't going to be satisfied if they receive great customer support, loads of hosting features, budget pricing but constant unreliability. We therefore place great emphasis on excellent reliability; we use only the latest, fastest hardware for both our servers and network equipment. We spend hours each day combing through our servers ensuring they are performing to an optimum. We have a 5 page checklist that must be completed before a server is put into production. We have a monitoring system that alerts us by SMS, email and Instant Messaging in the event of any problem. The result? Uptime figures most people only dream of at this price point. We regularly acheive 100% uptime in any given month for each of our servers, and even when we fall short of this mark, we're still looking at 99.9%. Don't believe us?
